What do you know about Baker Art Gallery?
Answer
Baker Art Gallery was the most prominent photography studio in Columbus, Ohio for over eighty years. After the studio closed in 1955, Mrs. Lorenzo P. Baker donated a large collection of negatives and photographs to the Ohio History Connection.
Baker is primarily known as a portrait studio, and they were located just across the street from the Ohio Statehouse, so many dignitaries and celebrities had their picture taken. The studio also produced sentimental studies depicting dramatic scenes and idealized domestic scenes with women and children. These were widely published in magazines and reproduced for customers to purchase for home décor.
