Where can I find military discharge papers?

Answer

Most recent veterans and their next of kin can obtain copies of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) from the National Archives and Records Administration.

Archived Military Personnel Records are held at the National Personnel Records Center.

The Ohio Department of Veteran Services may also be able to provide assistance locating discharge papers for Ohio veterans and their next of kin.

You may also try contacting the County Recorder's office in the county where the veteran was resident. Veterans are encouraged to record their discharges (DD-214s) at their County Recorder' office.

If you served in the Ohio National Guard, your discharge would be archived at the Ohio National Guard Library.
